Alfonzo (formerly Cream)

We have renamed Cream Alfonzo (Fonzie for short). Man he is really living up to his name! He is such a ladies man.

Day 1

He travelled really well. He wasn't really meowing much or looking that distressed but I don't think he liked going round corners.

We got to the flat and let him out of his cat carrier and he was initially a bit freaked out. He hid under the bed for about 20mins till I opened a can of tuna and he ran out and jumped all over me. I was shocked how quickly he was becoming confident. He was out and playing within about an hour. Then the doorbell rang and he ran under the bed again. It didn't take long to lure him out though. Just calling and shaking some cat biscuits did it.

Then he had a mooch around the flat and immediately spotted the fish tank in the kitchen. We had planned to keep him to a safe room but our flat is a bedsit flat and so it was hard to do it, besides he seemed to want to look around. He watches the fish tank the same way that we watch TV. He was lying all over me and Phil most of the night while we chilled out. He really likes his fuss and cuddles.

It came to bed time and we turned all the lights out for the night expecting that he would hide under the bed but he didn't. He wanted to sleep in between me and Phil while he paddied his claws all over poor Phil's back. The we moved him to the bottom of the bed and he settled for a while. He got up a few times to change positions and try to sit on my head while I slept. He also had a poo and went straight in the litter tray which was awesome.

Day 2

He had all of his food for breakfast and played for a while with his bird on a dangly string. Then he sprawled on the bed for a while. I had my breakfast and he climbed up to sit on my shoulder while I was on the internet (which is where he is, parrot style, right now).

The postman came and he darted under the bed like a bat out of hell. When I went to check on him he didn't look afraid he just looked like he was going to sleep. Cheeky cat.

Then he came out again for a bit of a mooch around the flat and sat near the balcony doors. A bird settled on the balcony and this drove him wild. He took a massive run up and ran right into the glass (which is very clean) and smacked his head against it. He meowed for a bit and clawed the door, then he gave me a dirty look and went back under the bed. I know it's cruel but this really made me laugh, I couldn't stop laughing. It was such a shock as he had been so laid back and hardly seemed to be bothered with distracting things in the world, he wasn't that excited about the fish! Again I went to check if he was OK and he seemed to be back asleep again.

A friend of mine came to visit him with a new mouse toy and some wool. I was worried he would be shy and go under the bed the entire time she was here but he didn't. He was purring around her and trying to nuzzle under her chin. The only time he broke his purring and lounging ways was when she moved him off her lap to leave. Again with the dirty looks and back under the bed for another sleep.

Phil came home and he played with him on the bed for a bit, happy to see him. Then he got some treats and more fuss from Phil as they curled up on the sofa to watch TV and wait for their dinner.

Most of the evening he slept on the top of the sofa (which I think is his fave place, second to under the bed). Then when it came to bed time we set up a box for him right next to Phil's side of the bed and put a hot water bottle under the pillow. He stayed there most of the night with Phil patting him. It was then we discovered that he snores quite loudly for a cat!

Day 3

He woke up with us and seemed very excited to get his breakfast, he ate the whole can immediately in one sitting! He loves anything seafood and doesn't seem as bothered about any chicken or meat stuff.

He then meowed at Phil for a while til Phil played with him more. He then had a more explorative mooch around the flat, looking in the wardrobes and behind the book shelves. He sat at the kitchen window for a bit where he seemed happy to watch the world go by. He stayed there most of the morning, bathing in the sun. All was well until he decided to sniff the cactus and spiked his nose. he gave it (and me) another dirty look and went back under the bed. I have moved my cactus's to the balcony now so he doesn't get spiked again.

Generally he seems to be settling in much better than we thought he would. We thought it would take him much longer to get used to us but he is so friendly and loving that I think he must quite like us (which is good because we have fallen in love with The Fonze good and proper). The only worries that we have are that he seems a bit bored sometimes (Phil suggested getting him a juke box and a leather jacket like the real Fonzie for him to play 'happy days' with) remains to be seen. Seriously though we are collecting old boxes and cotton reels to let him play with as he seems to quite like them (for about two seconds til its time for another nap).

I think he seems very keen to go outside as he looks at the window and the balcony doors quite a lot. We are reluctant to let him out before the month as we are worried that he wont come back, although it's hard when he looks at you with that face as if to say 'you are being so mean to me'.

I will send more pictures when I work out how to upload them from my stupid digital camera. I have lots.

Me and Phil want to say thank you so much for recomending Fonzie to us as he is the perfect cat for our lives and our flat. He is our new best friend. The only shame is that we hadn't met him five years earlier and then we could have got to know him as a kitten too. He is awesome and I love him to bits. Thank you so much for everything and we will keep you posted on his  progress with more photos and stories hopefully.

Lots of love Andreanna, Phil and the Fonze xxx
