Emma (formerly Poppy)

While I’ve been meaning to send you a thank you note, I never managed to do it till now.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for letting me have this beautiful cat, Emma (then, Poppy), who came to live with me on 2 July 2006. She has been a fantastic friend, who has even changed my life-style.

She was affectionate from the beginning – but, when I look back a few months back, she was more reserved as she is totally opened up and relaxed with me now. She even sleeps with her tummy up!!

Contrary to what I initially expected, she is and will always be an in-door cat. While I spent a considerable amount of time getting her used to play in my little garden for the first few months, she was not comfortable with the cat flap and was rather clumsy outside. I’ve had to give up the idea of giving her freedom to go out and come in through the cat-flap, when she came back with the little injury and refused to go outside ever since. So, she stays in-doors and watches the outside world through the window, which seems to suit her liking.

She greets me at the door when I come home from work. She expects to have my immediate and undivided attention to her; and she expects to spend at least half an hour sitting on my lap and talk about her day. Sometimes, it becomes a pain in my part as I am tired in the evening and I’d rather take a bath and watch telly and eat and etc…

She sleeps with me in the bed; she tends to occupy the most comfortable part of the bed and refuses to move when I try to push her out. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and find Emma sleeping on my chest!!

I cannot imagine life without Emma now. She is now so much part of my life. I am happy to provide whatever makes her happy and comfortable. I have to watch out her weight though, as she seems to be putting weights…. How can I make this lazy adorable cat do some exercise and lose weight!!!???

Thank you very much again, and I love you all.
Love,
Hisayo
